Today is another one of many sad days for higher education in Nevada. No one needs less bad news than the Nevada System of Higher Education. This bad news is further heightened because it is self-inflicted. It need not ever have happened if the regents had played by the rules and had voted to give the presidency of UNR to either of two very qualified applicants.
There will be no way of testing what the future of UNR would have been had Marc Johnson not been elected. I believe Nevadans will only find those answers when they look back on the progress of UNR in the field of higher education ten years from now.
