Funding
Higher education has three sources of revenue:
ONE, state funding; TWO, tuition and fees; and THREE, income from
research. Nevada has never funded higher education, especially UNLV and
CSN. Even when times were good
and the economy was booming, Nevadans never felt higher education was
important.
Jim, you've been here a long time. I came in 1996 but from my experience this is a very transient place. A lot of low paying service jobs, easy to lose money, nothing really permanent for most folks. When they go broke, they go back to where they came from. Loyalty to Las Vegas is not a consideration for many people.
