UNLV’s International Gaming Institute

State funding support for world-class public universities, like Berkeley, the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia has been reduced as low as zero to 20%.  The top tier public universities learned many years ago it was necessary for them to become research universities, which are profit centers, to fund their operations.  UNLV and UNR are far behind on the curve in becoming self-sustaining.  Both must develop as world renowned research universities to earn income to survive and succeed.

Today Jim discusses the many attributes and plans of UNR and UNLV to make both universities competitive with the other world-class U.S. public universities.

Hospitality and gaming companies from around the world look to UNLV’s International Gaming Institute for resources and training to help them succeed. Executive Director Bo Bernhard testifying to the Gaming Commission said that UNLV can become the intellectual hub of the global gaming enterprise, and convert that title into new economies and business opportunities in Las Vegas.  The program provides training to casino and gaming industry officials locally, nationally and internationally.  UNLV and UNR announced a partnership to co-produce one of the world’s largest conferences on gambling in Las Vegas, a clear indication of the power of UNLV’s intellectual capital:  http://t.co/HcgCxIEp
