CSN

The College of Southern Nevada, formerly known as the Clark County Community College, has 38% of the students in the entire Nevada Higher Education System.  It is the fourth largest community college in the United States and yet having 38% of the state’s higher education students, IT IS THE MOST UNDERFUNDED HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN THE STATE.

Many students leave K-12 schools undereducated and unprepared.  CSN is the most affordable route to increase income and opportunity in Southern Nevada.  Having the greatest needs and the least opportunities, these students go to a school where they will receive little assistance, if any, to guide them through their education because support funding simply does not exist.

Nevada even under-funds tutors at CSN.  Those who seek help outside the classroom wait in long lines to seek advice.  Single mothers, unemployed construction workers, those who have lost their homes, those with disabilities and those with low incomes are approaching panic because they have no way to increase their income.

One of the primary reasons for the underfunding of CSN is that 75% OF THE NEVADA TAX REVENUE IS PRODUCED BY SOUTHERN NEVADA AND 75% OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS GO TO SCHOOL IN SOUTHERN NEVADA, YET THE SOUTHERN NEVADA HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOOLS RECEIVE ONLY 50% OF THE STATE’S FUNDS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS UNDERFUNDED BUT CSN TAKES THE GREATEST BRUNT AND ABSORBS THE GREATEST IMPACT OF THAT UNDERFUNDING.

FOR THIRTY YEARS THE INCOMPETENT SOUTHERN NEVADA LEGISLATORS, THOUGH
HAVING A MAJORITY OF VOTES IN THE NEVADA LEGISLATURE, WERE OUT-SMARTED
AND OUT-MANEUVERED BY THE NORTH. UNLV WAS SHORTED SIX-HUNDRED MILLION
DOLLARS AND THE COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA WAS SHORTED TWO-HUNDRED AND
SEVENTY-FIVE MILLIONS DOLLARS IN TAX DISTRIBUTION. THE SOUTHERN NEVADA
COLLEGES WILL NEVER FULLY RECOVER.

THIS WEEK'S TWEETS DESCRIBE THE DAMAGE DONE TO CSN BECAUSE THE
SOUTHERN NEVADA REGENTS AND LEGISLATORS FAILED MISERABLY TO PERFORM
THE DUTIES ENTRUSTED TO THEM.
