I Have Not Received A Phone Call

One of the most powerful Nevadans called me a week ago today to say that both he and Horsford were distressed by my comments on Horsford’s incompetence. He asked if I would meet with him and Horsford to discuss the issues between us. I told him I would and to call my assistant for an appointment. This is Friday, a week after my discussion with Horsford’s agent. I have not received a phone call. I am not surprised, are you?

Horsford’s disease of not returning phone calls seems to be contagious. As I sit here it simply makes me laugh.  

Research At UNSOM

State funding support for world-class public universities, like Berkeley, the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia has been reduced as low as zero to 20%.  The top tier public universities learned many years ago it was necessary for them to become research universities, which are profit centers, to fund their operations.  UNLV and UNR are far behind on the curve in becoming self-sustaining.  Both must develop as world renowned research universities to earn income to survive and succeed.

Research conducted at UNSOM has led to the development of an antibody and diagnostic test to rapidly detect a strain of meningitis which is a leading cause of AIDS-related deaths in developing countries. The discoveries have been commercialized and moved into the marketplace, and are anticipated to save hundreds of thousands of lives.

No Substance

Horsford, through a series of tragic coincidences, became the most powerful Nevada legislator. With all that power he still could not pass a budget to raise education spending. The man is all form and no substance.

The University of Nevada School of Medicine currently holds nearly $50 million in National Institutes of Health-sponsored research grants for studies into conditions ranging from HIV to battlefield injuries.

How Long?

In case your are wondering how long the tweets about Steven Horsford will continue, here is an easy date to remember. I will write the last one on the morning of the election, Tuesday, November 6. Until then, I have so much help in writing about this terrible person that there is no question I have more than enough material.

Hours Spent

Horsford spent over eight hundred hours of the legislature’s time debating whether a sports arena should be built in southern Nevada while he spent approximately eighty hours examining broadening the tax base. No single arena bill received a committee vote.

Research-based programs pioneered by UNR psychologists have improved the lives of many. An internationally recognized branch of behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, was developed by UNR psychologists and is recognized by the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for depression and chronic pain.
