Yes, the classified staff has a union, etc. It's the lower-level administrative faculty who are abused by the top dogs. It's like working for the mob. There's a code of silence that must be adhered to, or else they whack you. There's a culture of secrecy and retaliation, subterfuge and underhandedness. And, the tenured faculty don't care or are oblivious to it because of the reasons you mention above - it doesn't affect them. It's like two parallel universes. I don't begrudge tenured faculty tenure, but the culture within higher ed could be changed by some sunlight and accountability.

Thanks,

AnnAnn L.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18133827439825983113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3257073274041195263.post-6050862460140108202012-06-04T09:11:49.005-07:002012-06-04T09:11:49.005-07:00Michael, thank you for sending the link. And I've never met a more dedicated and hard-working group of people than my colleagues at CSN. If there are faculty members out there who abuse the privileges of tenure, I haven't met them yet.aprilheberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11255209805539425592noreply@blogger.com
